Minneapolis Man Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Producing Child Pornography

A Minneapolis man was sentenced to 420 months in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release, for producing sexually explicit videos of minors.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Jay Tyrell Whiteford used his cell phone and Snapchat account to communicate with at least two minors in March 2020. In his communications, Whiteford used an alias and told the minors he was 16 years old. He induced the minors to create and send to him sexually explicit videos and images.

Whiteford was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court before Judge Eric C. Tostrud. On June 17, 2022, he pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography.

This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey E. Middlecamp prosecuted the case.

Whiteford’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea to the production of child pornography charge. The sentence will see him serve 35 years in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.

Residents of Minneapolis are calling for harsher penalties for those who produce and distribute child pornography. ‘This sentence sends a clear message that the production and distribution of child pornography will be met with severe consequences,’ said a local resident.

The case is a reminder of the importance of vigilance in the fight against child exploitation. Law enforcement agencies and community members must work together to prevent and investigate these crimes.
