Memphis Man Sentenced to 16.5 Years for Cocaine Distribution, Leadership Role in Memphis Mob Gang
A federal judge has sentenced 48-year-old Jeffery ‘Bud B’ Sevier of Memphis, Tennessee, to 16.5 years in federal prison for his involvement in an armed drug trafficking operation. Sevier was convicted in July 2022 of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
According to information presented at trial and the sentencing hearing, investigators identified a North Memphis home from which narcotics were being sold as part of the Memphis Mob gang. On March 4, 2019, a shooting occurred at the location, leaving one person injured. Surveillance video showed Sevier at the scene, with co-conspirators firing into a vehicle occupied by five people, including a minor child.
Sevier was arrested on the scene and provided false information to police. The surveillance video also showed Memphis Mob members distributing narcotics from the North Memphis house daily until the shooting, after which the group relocated operations.
At sentencing, the Court held Sevier responsible for 4.5 kilograms of cocaine, holding a leadership role in the Memphis Mob directing others to sell narcotics on the gang’s behalf, and maintaining control over the gang’s drug distribution house.
U.S. District Court Judge Mark S. Norris handed down the sentence, which includes four years of supervised release upon completion of Sevier’s prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
The ATF, DEA, Memphis Police Department, and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Greg Allen and Michelle Kimbril-Parks prosecuting on behalf of the government. Acting Special Agent in Charge Jason Stankiewicz stated, “The ATF will continue to use its resources to combat illegal firearm possession, drug distribution, and violent acts of crime.”
This prosecution is part of an extensive investigation by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). OCDETF is a joint federal, state, and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking organizations and organized criminal enterprises.
