A 54-year-old Cherokee man, Jeffery Linn, has pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
On December 6, 2021, Linn was operating a vehicle when law enforcement conducted a traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle, officers seized approximately 10 ounces of methamphetamine. Linn allegedly attempted to swallow the meth to avoid arrest.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde.
The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program worked in conjunction with the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, United States Postal Inspectors, Homeland Security Investigations, Iowa DCI Laboratory, and Cherokee Police Department to investigate Linn.
Linn faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, and at least five years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Linn remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. A presentence report will be prepared before sentencing is set before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand.
