South Bend Man Sentenced to 180 Months for Drug Trafficking
A South Bend man has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for his role in a drug trafficking crime. Roman Olvera, 29, of Elkhart, Indiana was sentenced before Judge Jon E. DeGuilio for distribution of controlled substances and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
According to documents filed in this case, on September 25, 2015, Olvera distributed heroin and marijuana to another person. He admitted to carrying a firearm to protect himself from being robbed of drugs or proceeds during the transaction. When arrested on February 14, 2016, Olvera had approximately 114 grams of methamphetamine in his possession.
This case was prosecuted as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jesse M. Barrett.
Oltra was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment and 4 years of supervised release. The sentencing is a result of the defendant’s involvement in a drug trafficking crime that put the community at risk.
The investigation into Olvera’s activities began in 2015 and resulted in his arrest in February 2016. The defendant has now been held accountable for his crimes and will spend the next 15 years in prison.
