Jeffrey Farrell Davis, a 36-year-old Gainesville man, was sentenced yesterday to 120 months in federal prison for obtaining a 14-year-old child for commercial sex acts. The sentence, handed down in the Northern District of Florida, includes 25 years of supervised release, $3,000 in victim restitution, and a $5,000 special assessment under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act. Davis had pleaded guilty in March 2018 to one count of child sex trafficking.
The crime unfolded between April and June 2017, when a network of individuals exploited the minor by advertising her on Backpage.com under a false identity. Ads were posted in the ‘escort services’ section for the Gainesville area—bait to lure men seeking paid sex. In reality, the posts were gateways to child sexual exploitation, with the victim delivered to paying customers at motels and private homes across north central Florida.
Davis responded to the ads and engaged in commercial sex with the child on two separate occasions. He is one of several individuals tied to the trafficking ring, though federal prosecutors focused on his direct role in soliciting and receiving the minor for sexual acts. Communications were made via a cellphone number listed in the ads, used to coordinate drop-offs and payments.
The FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement led the investigation, unraveling the web of deception used to profit off the victim. Agents traced ad activity, phone records, and financial exchanges that placed Davis at the scene of the crimes. The digital footprints left on Backpage became critical evidence in building the case against him and others involved.
Assistant United States Attorney Frank Williams prosecuted the case, emphasizing the predatory nature of the crime and the lasting trauma inflicted on the victim. U.S. Attorney Lawrence Keefe, overseeing the Northern District of Florida, confirmed the sentence as a signal of zero tolerance for exploiting children. “This was not a victimless transaction,” Keefe stated. “It was trafficking, plain and brutal.”
