A 56-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that spanned the Council Bluffs and Omaha metro area.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, Jeffrey Scott Leisure was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger on March 3, 2021, to 126 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Leisure was also ordered to serve ten years of supervised release to follow his prison term and pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
The Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force began investigating Leisure in connection with the distribution of several pounds of methamphetamine in the Council Bluffs and Omaha area. Detectives with the Bellevue Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted several controlled methamphetamine purchases with Leisure, leading to his arrest.
The investigation was a joint effort involving the Council Bluffs Police Department, Bellevue Police Department, Omaha Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Leisure pleaded guilty to the offense on October 9, 2020.
The sentencing marks a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the region. Methamphetamine has been linked to a number of serious crimes, including violent assault and property crime.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa continues to prioritize the prosecution of those involved in the methamphetamine trade.
