Cody James Vancenbrock, Methamphetamine Distribution, Iowa 2021

DES MOINES – A local man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in distributing methamphetamine that resulted in a death. Cody James Vancenbrock, 28, was handed down the 240-month sentence by United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger on July 29, 2021.

The sentence also includes five years of supervised release, restitution, and a $100 payment to the Crime Victims Fund. Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made this announcement.

According to court documents, on August 4, 2019, Vancenbrock intentionally injected methamphetamine at an Oskaloosa apartment into a 24-year-old female victim. This act would ultimately lead to the victim’s untimely death.

After the victim died in the apartment, Vancenbrock and another person carried her body out of the apartment, placed her in a vehicle, drove to a location in rural Mahaska County, and disposed of her body in the Skunk River. The body was later found and recovered on August 6, 2019.

The United States Attorney’s Office-Southern District of Iowa prosecuted this case, with the Iowa Department of Public Safety-Division of Criminal Investigation, the Oskaloosa Police Department, and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office conducting the investigation.

Vancenbrock’s actions have left a family without their loved one, and a community shaken. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.

The sentence handed down to Vancenbrock serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of distributing illicit substances. The Grimy Times urges all individuals to prioritize their health and well-being, and to avoid any involvement in illicit activities.
