Jenkins Sentenced for Ammunition Possession
Omaha, NE – A 47-year-old woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for purchasing ammunition while being a convicted felon. Lori Jenkins, 47, of Omaha, was found guilty by a jury in April 2014 for purchasing ammunition on August 2, 2013, and August 20, 2013.
The ammunition was purchased from two local stores: Canfield’s and Sol’s. The purchases were made despite Jenkins’ status as a convicted felon, a fact that made her possession of the ammunition a serious offense.
U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced the sentencing, which was meted out by Chief U.S. District Judge Laurie Smith Camp. Jenkins was also placed on three years of supervised release after her incarceration and ordered to pay a $200 special assessment.
The investigation into Jenkins’ activities was a joint effort between the Omaha Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to keep firearms out of the hands of those who are not supposed to possess them.
Jenkins’ sentence serves as a reminder that violating firearms laws can have serious consequences. The 10-year prison term and three years of supervised release demonstrate the severity with which the law views such offenses.
The case is a sobering reminder of the importance of background checks and the need for vigilance in ensuring that firearms do not fall into the wrong hands.
As Jenkins begins her 10-year prison sentence, the community can take comfort in knowing that those who break the law and put public safety at risk will be held accountable.
