Tulsa residents Jennifer Canales and Ali Bashir Milad were sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for their role in distributing fentanyl, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.

Jennifer Canales, 31, and Ali Bashir Milad, 33, both of Tulsa, pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel to 120 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release.

On Jan. 28, 2021, Tulsa police officers executed a search warrant on Canales’ residence, where they found over 600 grams of fentanyl, a pill press, a blender used to mix the drug, cutting agents, and scales used to weigh the product. The officers also discovered two firearms and ammunition. Canales told officers that the residence was hers and that she knew that Milad, who lived there, sold drugs.

Milad was later arrested, and on April 15, 2021, a second search warrant was conducted at the residence. Officers found Canales hiding inside the home and located approximately 1,280 grams of fentanyl contained in multiple bags, nearly $23,000 in cash, and a ledger used in the drug trafficking operation.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and Tulsa Police Department conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel-lyn A. McCormick prosecuting the case.

Canales and Milad’s sentence of 10 years in federal prison is a result of their involvement in distributing fentanyl, a highly addictive and deadly opioid. The duo’s actions put countless lives at risk, and their punishment serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those involved in the illicit fentanyl trade.
