A shocking crime has rocked the streets of Sioux City, Iowa. Jerell Wilson, a 30-year-old man with a history of felony convictions, has been convicted of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
According to the evidence presented in court, Wilson was found to be in possession of multiple firearms, including a loaded gun with a round in the chamber, when law enforcement executed a search warrant on his home on June 23, 2022.
The investigation revealed that Wilson had been at the crime scene prior to and after the crime with a Coach backpack containing multiple firearms. His refusal to attend his own trial only added to the severity of the charges.
Wilson’s conviction comes after a two-day trial in federal court in Sioux City. The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before returning a guilty verdict.
The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild, who argued that Wilson’s history of felony convictions made him a prohibited person from possessing a firearm.
Wilson faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 5 years of supervised release following any imprisonment. Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand will be set after a presentence report is prepared.
The case was investigated by the Sioux City, Iowa Police Department. Jerell Wilson remains in the custody of the United States Marshal.
