Bank Robbery Rocks East Chicago: Duo Charged with Heist
The streets of East Chicago were shaken when Jeremiah Ellis, 28, and Ashley Patterson, 24, allegedly stole from the First Merchants Bank. The brazen heist has left residents reeling and authorities scrambling for answers.
The pair, both from East Chicago, Indiana, was charged with bank robberies of the First Merchants Bank in East Chicago and using a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chicago Police Department, has been a long and arduous one.
Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Chang-Adiga will be prosecuting the case, which has left many wondering what drove these two individuals to commit such a crime. ‘This case is a stark reminder that bank robberies have serious consequences,’ said a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
