St. Francis Man Indicted for Domestic Assault by an Habitual Offender and Child Abuse
Acting United States Attorney Dennis Holmes announced that a St. Francis, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Domestic Assault by an Habitual Offender and Child Abuse.
Jeremy Iron, a/k/a Jeremy Red Tomahawk, age 36, was indicted on March 9, 2021, in connection with alleged incidents that took place in Todd County, South Dakota.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The Indictment alleges that on September 9, 2020, and October 27, 2020, Iron unlawfully committed a domestic assault and, at the time of the domestic assault, Iron had at least two prior convictions for offenses that would have been, if subject to federal jurisdiction, an assault against a spouse, intimate partner, or a child of or in the care of Iron. The Indictment further alleges that at the same time and place, Iron did abuse, expose, torture, torment, and cruelly punish two different children who had not attained the age of eighteen.
The charges are merely accusations and Iron is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.
Iron was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
