A 38-year-old man, Jeremy Lynn Rasmussen, has pleaded guilty to failing to update his sex offender registration in New York.
According to court documents, Rasmussen abandoned his Albany residence in January 2015 and moved to Pittsfield, Mass., without updating his sex offender registration.
Rasmussen is required to register as a sex offender as a result of a 2002 conviction, from Jefferson County, New York, for first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Pittsfield Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael Barnett.
Rasmussen pleaded guilty to a violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (“SORNA”), which requires a convicted sex offender to register where he or she resides, is employed, or is enrolled as a student, and to keep any registration current.
Rasmussen faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a maximum $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release of between 5 years and up to life when he is sentenced on January 19, 2016 by United States District Judge Gary L. Sharpe.
This case is prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
