Rochester Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Charges
A Rochester man has been sentenced to 72 months in prison and 5 years supervised release for his role in a child pornography ring. Nicholas Matthew Skvarla, 33, was convicted of receipt and possession of child pornography following a non-jury trial.
The sentencing hearing was held on no date provided before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. Skvarla used a file sharing internet program to receive and distribute child pornography between May 2008 and September 2008. The images included prepubescent minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The investigation was led by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Patrick M. O’Flynn, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge J. Michael Kennedy.
In a statement, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron J. Mango and Bradley E. Tyler said, ‘The defendant’s actions were a serious violation of the law and a threat to the well-being of our community.’
Skvarla will serve his prison sentence followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our children from exploitation and abuse.
