A Kosciusko man has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for his role in a string of gun thefts in Central Mississippi. Jermaine Griffin, 31, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Tom S. Lee for illegally possessing a stolen gun, announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Dana Nichols of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Griffin purchased the stolen .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol for $100 from a street vendor. Despite having suspicions that the gun was stolen, Griffin went ahead with the purchase. He later learned that the gun was taken during a burglary at Central Mississippi Firearms in Kosciusko.

Griffin then sold the stolen pistol in Durant, Mississippi, further perpetuating the cycle of gun violence in the area. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper gun ownership and safety.

The federal grand jury indicted Griffin in October 2017, along with several co-defendants involved in the gun thefts and sales. Estelle Cook, Jr. was sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday, while the remaining defendants will be sentenced in June.

The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Jackson Police Department, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Jackson, Mississippi, handling the prosecution.
