Jacksonville resident Jeromy Washington, 25, is headed to federal prison for five years and ten months after being convicted of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Brian J. Davis in Jacksonville, Florida.
According to court documents, Washington’s downfall began when he was arrested at the scene of a drug transaction. At the time of his arrest, Washington was getting paid to provide armed security during the sale of narcotics. It was not his first run-in with the law, as Washington had previously sold cocaine and fentanyl to undercover agents on multiple occasions.
Washington’s criminal history is extensive, and as a result, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. Despite this, Washington was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition at the time of his arrest.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro, while Assistant United States Attorney Mai Tran was responsible for the forfeiture of the firearm and ammunition involved in the offense.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program brings together law enforcement and community members to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The sentencing of Jeromy Washington serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon has serious consequences. Washington will serve his time in federal prison and forfeit the firearm and ammunition involved in the offense.
