GRAVE THREAT: A Gary Man’s Brutal Assault on a US Postal Worker

HAMMOND, IN – In a shocking display of violence, Jerron Donte Williams, 34, of Gary, Indiana, brutally assaulted and injured a US Postal Service Letter Carrier with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm during the attack.

According to court documents, on April 2, 2021, the letter carrier was delivering US Mail in their official capacity in Gary, Indiana, when Williams’ vehicle collided with the postal delivery vehicle. Williams, enraged, exited his vehicle, entered a nearby residence, and emerged with a handgun. He then proceeded to fire at the mail carrier while the postal vehicle was in motion.

The bullets struck the postal vehicle four times, shattering the right-side window and causing injuries to the letter carrier. The shocking attack has left the community in shock, raising concerns about the safety of postal workers and the need for stricter gun control measures.

Williams’ vicious assault has earned him a severe sentence: 153 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a massive restitution payment of $121,045.62. The court’s decision sends a strong message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated in our communities.

The case was investigated by the US Postal Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Gary Police Department, and the Hobart Police Department. Assistant US Attorney Nicholas J. Padilla prosecuted the case.

This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our neighborhoods. The PSN program brings together law enforcement and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, support community-based initiatives, and set focused enforcement priorities.
