SOUTH BEND, Indiana – Tony Young, 54 years old, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced to 110 months in prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
According to documents in the case, in March and April 2024, law enforcement was investigating drug activity at a Mishawaka residence, which included the sale of methamphetamine by Young. A search warrant of the residence resulted in the recovery of a loaded stolen revolver.
Young, who has a number of prior felony convictions, was prohibited from possessing the firearm in this case. This restriction was due to his previous convictions and the fact that he was a convicted felon.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration with assistance from the Mishawaka Police Department and the Indiana State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. On May 26, 2021, the violent crime reduction strategy was launched, strengthening PSN based on core principles.
Young’s sentence of 110 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release was handed down by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to the charges.
