MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Jerry Wayne Asbill, 42, of Adair County, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to two life terms for Aggravated Sexual Abuse in Indian Country. The sentences will be served concurrently.
The sentence stems from investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. On May 10, 2023, a federal jury found Asbill guilty on two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse after he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 12 in November 2018, within the Cherokee Nation Reservation.
“Mr. Asbill’s crimes were abhorrent and morally reprehensible,” said Acting Special Agent in Charge Jason Kaplan of the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office. “The bravery of the victim who came forward and the tenacity of the investigators allowed us to achieve justice.”
United States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson emphasized, “The despicable crimes against this child warrant the life sentences imposed by the Court. The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to seeking justice for victims and holding offenders accountable.”
The Honorable Kea W. Riggs, U.S. District Judge in New Mexico, presided over the hearing. Asbill will be transported to a federal prison facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorneys Morgan Muzljakovich and Nicole Paladino represented the United States during the trial.
