Jeryel L. Winfield, Narcotics Conspiracy, Georgia 2024

A federal grand jury has indicted Jeryel L. Winfield, 51, of McDonough, GA, formerly of Binghamton, NY, for his role in a Jamestown drug conspiracy. Winfield, also known as Derezz and Idriys, faces charges of narcotics conspiracy, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life.

According to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, the indictment alleges that between 2019 and May 26, 2022, Winfield conspired with Joseph S. Zaso and others to sell heroin and fentanyl. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua A. Violanti and Louis A. Testani are handling the case, which is the result of an investigation by the Jamestown Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation was led by Chief Timothy Jackson, Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III, and Sheriff James Quattrone.

The indictment is a significant development in the ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the Jamestown area. Operation Take Back America has streamlined efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to target transnational criminal organizations and protect communities from violent crime.

Winfield’s indictment is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. The case highlights the importance of cooperation and coordination in combating organized crime and protecting public safety. As the case moves forward, the prosecution will rely on evidence gathered during the investigation to prove Winfield’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Winfield will have the opportunity to respond to the charges in court, and the case will proceed in accordance with the federal justice system. The outcome of the case will depend on the evidence presented and the verdict of the jury or the judge.

In the meantime, the community can take comfort in knowing that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety. The Jamestown Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office have demonstrated their commitment to justice and public safety through their thorough investigation and collaboration on this case.
