KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The grim streets of Kansas City were rocked once more as Maurquis D. Jennings, a 29-year-old local, found himself staring down the barrel of federal charges for illegal firearms and possession of a machine gun.
Jennings was hit with an indictment on August 12, 2025, by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. The man known to locals as a threat to public safety now faces one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and another for possessing a machine gun.
The feds allege that on June 8, 2025, Jennings walked the streets with a Glock, Model 20 Gen5, a 10mm fully automatic pistol, and a Glock, Model 30 Gen5, a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. But it was the Glock 20 that had an ominous secret: a machine gun conversion device, or what many call ‘switches’ or ‘auto sears,’ baked into its frame. This device turned the Glock from a mere firearm into a deadly automatic weapon capable of unloading rounds rapidly and with little accuracy.
Under federal law, it’s a strict no-go for anyone with a felony record to own a gun, much less a machine gun like Jennings’ Glock. His prior conviction for robbery only compounded his current troubles. As the gritty streets of Kansas City await his fate, it’s clear that the feds mean business.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica L. Jennings is leading the prosecution in this case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Lee’s Summit, Missouri Police Department. This isn’t just any case; it’s part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that’s pulling out all stops to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
Jennings now sits in the crosshairs of justice, his freedom hanging by a thread. The court will have to decide if he’s guilty or innocent based on the evidence presented at trial. Until then, Kansas City remains on edge, knowing that even more violence may be on the horizon.
