Emmanuel Robinson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Missouri 2018

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The grimy streets of Kansas City saw their latest chapter unfold as Emmanuel Robinson, a 36-year-old repeat offender, was sentenced to 25 years and five months in federal prison for illegal firearm possession.

Robinson’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays on Thursday, May 30th, marking the end of a trial that revealed his dangerous tendencies. On December 5, 2018, Robinson faced charges for being a felon in possession of a Taurus .40-caliber handgun. The evidence was chilling: a loaded firearm found concealed in his waistband after an altercation with Kansas City police detectives.

The incident began when police were handling another matter when they encountered Robinson. During the confrontation, Robinson’s hands remained near his front waistband as he tried to flee. It wasn’t long before both men were detained, and a loaded handgun was discovered in Robinson’s pants.

Under federal law, it is illegal for felons like Robinson to possess any firearm or ammunition. His criminal history includes two prior felony convictions for unlawful use of a weapon and multiple other serious offenses, including robbery, domestic assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brad K. Kavanaugh and Alison D. Dunning, with investigation led by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department. The sentence is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort to reduce violent crime in Missouri’s Western District.

Project Safe Neighborhoods, a partnership between federal, state, and local law enforcement, aims to make neighborhoods safer for all. Robinson’s sentence sends a clear message that the justice system will not tolerate gun violence in Kansas City or anywhere else.
