Daniel Navarro, Sex Trafficking, California 2024

LOS ANGELES – In a shocking verdict, Daniel Navarro, 41, from Victorville, California, has been found guilty on all counts of federal sex trafficking and exploitation. The Justice Department announced that Navarro, who posed as a teenager online, lured a 15-year-old girl to Mexico for illicit sexual activities.

Navarro, known online as “Angel,” was arrested in July 2022 upon returning from Mexico, just days before the victim’s quinceañera. Mexican authorities rescued the girl from Tijuana after Navarro’s capture, and he now remains in federal custody.

Evidence at trial revealed an online relationship between Navarro and the teenager, with conversations on Instagram where Navarro professed his love and spoke of intentions to impregnate her. He transported the victim from San Luis Obispo County to Tijuana, Mexico, for criminal sexual purposes. Additionally, Navarro distributed child pornography via Instagram and used it to entice a second victim into sending him explicit images.

United States District Judge André Birotte Jr. has set an October 24 sentencing hearing for Navarro. He faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the FBI, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, Mexican law enforcement, and DHS Homeland Security Investigations.

Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin Reidy and Kathy Yu are leading the prosecution against Navarro.
