A Rapid City man has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for producing child pornography, according to federal authorities.
Jesse Gallego, 22, was convicted of Production of Child Pornography, a federal crime, in a U.S. District Court in South Dakota.
The offense occurred in November 2014 at Pine Ridge, where Gallego took multiple pornographic photos of a young girl using his cell phone.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Collins prosecuted the case, resulting in a guilty verdict.
Gallego was sentenced on November 30, 2015, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken to 15 years of imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Gallego was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography and the importance of protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
