Des Moines Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Escape
Des Moines, IA – In a shocking turn of events, Jesse Jay Walker, a 32-year-old resident of Des Moines, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for his role in a brazen escape from a residential reentry center in 2019.
According to court documents, Walker was serving the final stages of a federal prison sentence for felon in possession of a firearm when he left the Fort Des Moines residential reentry center on a pass and never returned. The escape offense was further complicated by Walker’s commission of additional crimes while on the run, including a theft in the second degree and leaving the scene of a bodily injury accident in Clive, Iowa.
The case against Walker was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and the Clive Police Department, with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa handling the prosecution.
Walker pleaded guilty to the escape offense on June 2, 2020, and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey on October 9, 2020. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The sentencing of Walker marks the culmination of a lengthy investigation into his escape and subsequent crimes. As a result of his actions, Walker will now face the consequences of his actions in the form of a 30-month federal prison sentence.
