A Coweta man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison and ordered to pay $52,250 in restitution after being convicted of wire fraud. Jesse Kent Cox, 35, was handed down the sentence by the Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.
According to the indictment, Cox devised a scheme to defraud and obtain money and property by means of materially false and fraudulent pretenses, representations, and promises from January 1, 2016, to March 28, 2016. The charge arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Cox will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility where he will serve his non-paroleable sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Rob Wallace represented the United States in the hearing.
The wire fraud scheme allegedly involved making false and fraudulent promises to obtain money and property from victims. Cox’s exact role in the scheme is not specified in the indictment.
As part of his sentence, Cox was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $52,250. This amount represents the total amount of money he defrauded from his victims.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of being cautious when dealing with unfamiliar individuals or businesses, especially when it comes to financial matters. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of any business or individual before providing them with personal or financial information.
