Christopher Jacob Froehlich, Wire Fraud and Counterfeiting, OK, 2014

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Christopher Jacob Froehlich, a 28-year-old resident of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, has been hit with a triple-whammy of fraud charges after pleading guilty to three counts of Wire Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft, and Uttering a Counterfeit Security.

The defendant’s alleged scheme, which ran from December 25, 2013, to March 24, 2014, was a digital con-job that defrauded financial institutions out of money and property. Froehlich is accused of using computers to create fraudulent accounts under the guise of other individuals’ identities, all without their permission.

The U.S. Postal Inspector and the United States Secret Service led the investigation that ultimately landed Froehlich in court. A federal indictment filed on September 10, 2014, outlined the defendant’s fraudulent activities, including the creation and circulation of counterfeit checks.

Facing serious penalties for his crimes, Froehlich has been ordered to complete a presentence report by Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West, who will then schedule his sentencing hearing. The defendant is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until his fate is decided.

Representing the United States in this case was Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson, whose dedication to justice has brought Froehlich’s fraudulent activities to light.

This gritty cybercrime saga serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to for financial gain, and it underscores the importance of federal law enforcement agencies in protecting against such cunning crimes.
