A traffic stop in rural South Dakota led to the arrest of a 34-year-old woman from Lawton, Oklahoma, for possession of methamphetamine.
Jessi Barrera, a 34-year-old woman from Lawton, Oklahoma, was sentenced to time served equaling 150 days in tribal custody and 17 days in federal custody, one year of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $25.
The incident occurred on May 7, 2019, when Barrera was involved in a traffic stop in a rural area on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.
Officers searched the vehicle and recovered a scale, pipes, baggies, butane fluid and butane torch, rolling papers, a marijuana grinder, syringes and a small amount of methamphetamine.
Barrera was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 9, 2020, and she pled guilty on November 5, 2020.
The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.

The sentencing took place on November 5, 2020, in the U.S. District Court.
