A 33-year-old Sioux Falls man is headed to federal prison for 19 years and seven months for his role in a massive fentanyl trafficking operation. Elizeo Kalimba was found guilty of conspiring to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute after a jury trial in October 2025.
The case began in February 2024 when a federal grand jury indicted Kalimba for his alleged involvement in the fentanyl trade. Investigators believe Kalimba worked with another individual to obtain thousands of fentanyl pills from Arizona, which he then distributed in Sioux Falls.
A confidential informant helped the Sioux Falls Police Department conduct two controlled purchases of fentanyl pills from Kalimba, leading to a search warrant at his home where authorities discovered approximately 3900 pills. Investigators estimate Kalimba was responsible for trafficking over 13,000 fentanyl pills in and around the city.
Kalimba’s sentence includes five years of supervised release and a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
