Tax Preparer Jessica Ordonez Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

A Charlotte, North Carolina woman and owner of Tax Pros (a/k/a ‘Ordonez Tax Services’) has been sentenced to two years in prison for tax evasion and filing false tax returns.

Jessica Ordonez, 38, of Belmont, North Carolina, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Conrad, Jr. on March 25, 2015. Ordonez was found guilty of one count of tax evasion and one count of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of a false tax return.

According to court documents, Ordonez prepared at least 100 false tax returns for 23 taxpayers between 2004 and 2012, using fraudulent Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs). The tax loss associated with the fraudulent returns was approximately $202,217.

In addition to filing false tax returns for her clients, Ordonez also failed to report her own income on her individual tax returns for tax years 2009 to 2011, resulting in a tax loss of $86,085.

Ordonez was ordered to pay $288,302.63 in restitution as part of her sentence. She has been released on bond and will report to the Federal Bureau of Prisons to begin serving her sentence.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jenny Sugar of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.

Ordonez’s sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of tax compliance and the seriousness of tax-related crimes.
