Jesus Alberto Medina-Montes, Illegal Reentry, New York 2016

Syracuse, New York – A 24-year-old man from Oswego County has been charged with illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed in 2010, announced United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian.

Jesus Alberto Medina-Montes, 24, was indicted yesterday for illegal reentry of a removed alien and alleges that on April 7, 2016, Medina-Montes, an alien who was previously removed from the United States to Mexico on October 26, 2010, was found in Parish, New York.

The charges in the indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Medina-Montes was arrested on April 8, 2016, pursuant to a Criminal Complaint and is being detained without bail pending trial by order of the court.

The charge filed against Medina-Montes carries a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 1 year.

A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

This case is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs & Border Protection and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Levine.
