Teacher Charged in Child Exploitation Scandal
Jesus Concepcion, a former music teacher and orchestra instructor at a public charter middle school in the Bronx, has been charged with child exploitation and other crimes. Concepcion, also known as ‘Mr. C,’ is accused of enticing four minor victims to engage in sexual activity, transporting them across state lines, and inducing one minor victim to produce child pornography.
According to the indictment, Concepcion lured the minor victims into sexual relationships, giving them gifts and providing them with alcohol. He also used their cellphones to maintain contact and arrange sexual encounters. The abuse is alleged to have taken place in various locations, including the school’s music room and at motels in New Jersey.
Concepcion is accused of instructing one of the minor victims to take naked photographs of herself and send them to him. He also attempted to induce another minor victim to take sexually explicit photographs.
The indictment alleges that Concepcion engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor victims, including one who was as young as 12 years old. On one occasion, he allegedly had sex with a minor victim against her will in a New Jersey motel.
The charges against Concepcion include enticing minors to engage in sexual activity, transporting minors across state lines for illegal sexual acts, and inducing a minor to produce child pornography. He was arrested on August 7, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Audrey Strauss, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said, ‘As alleged, Jesus Concepcion abused his position as a teacher to engage in sexual relationships with several of his students.’ Strauss vowed that the law would be applied vigorously to anyone who engages in this type of conduct.
Jacqueline Maguire, the Acting Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of the FBI, added, ‘Teachers serve as trusted figures to their students, and Concepcion egregiously breached that trust.’ Maguire emphasized that parents have the right to expect their children to be safe in school.
Concepcion is currently facing the full force of the law, and it is alleged that he will be subject to severe penalties for his crimes. As the investigation continues, it is clear that the abuse of power and trust by Concepcion has had a profound impact on the lives of the minor victims involved.
