Two Albuquerque men have been slammed with federal prison time in connection with a sweeping 2016 ATF-led crackdown on drug trafficking in Bernalillo County. Jesus Parra, 30, was sentenced on Feb. 5, 2018, to 63 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to distribution of methamphetamine. Timothy Dilley, 35, was sentenced today to 19 months in prison and six years of supervised release for distributing both heroin and methamphetamine.
The cases stem from a massive federal sweep in August 2016 that saw 103 individuals charged—59 via federal indictments—as part of a coordinated takedown targeting violent and repeat offenders. The operation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), aimed to dismantle drug networks flooding Albuquerque neighborhoods with narcotics and firearms. To date, 84 defendants have been convicted, with 83 entering guilty pleas and 60 already sentenced.
Parra was indicted on June 30, 2016, on charges related to distributing methamphetamine on May 12, 2016, in Bernalillo County. He admitted to selling the drug to an undercover agent and formally pled guilty on June 12, 2017. The 30-year-old now faces over five years behind bars as part of a federal strategy to lock up chronic offenders with long priors.
Dilley, along with co-defendant Jonathan Aragon, 38, was arrested in July 2016 on conspiracy charges tied to a string of heroin and methamphetamine sales. Dilley admitted to selling the drugs to an undercover ATF agent on June 15, 2016, entering his guilty plea on September 26, 2016. Aragon, who also pled guilty, awaits sentencing on March 5, 2018.
The broader investigation operates under a federal anti-violence initiative that prioritizes prosecution of the “worst of the worst” offenders—especially those with violent criminal histories. Federal prosecutors work alongside state and local law enforcement to push cases into the federal system, where penalties are stiffer and habitual offenders can be removed from communities for extended periods.
Sixteen defendants have entered not guilty pleas and await trial. Two suspects remain fugitives; charges against two others have been dismissed. The cases were investigated by the ATF’s Albuquerque field office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul H. Spiers. The sweep underscores the ongoing battle against drug-fueled violence in New Mexico’s most densely populated county.
