A Bridgeport man has admitted to selling the heroin that killed a 25-year-old woman in Trumbull last year. Jevaughn Watson, 23, pleaded guilty today in Hartford federal court to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin — a charge that carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.
The fatal incident unfolded on August 18, 2016, when police and medics arrived at a Trumbull residence to find the victim unresponsive on a bedroom floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside her pocketbook, investigators recovered multiple empty wax folds — the kind commonly used to package street heroin — along with several containing residue of the drug.
Forensic analysis of the victim’s cellphone revealed a chilling timeline: she had exchanged multiple text messages with Jevaughn Watson over the two months before her death, ordering heroin directly from him. Authorities say the final batch Watson provided was the one that led to her fatal overdose.
Watson, who has been in custody since his arrest on September 7, 2016, waived his right to indictment and entered his guilty plea in federal court. The case is part of a broader Connecticut crackdown on dealers whose narcotics lead to death or serious injury — a push targeting the deadly surge of heroin and fentanyl flooding communities.
U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny will sentence Watson on February 23, 2017. Federal prosecutors are pushing for maximum accountability, citing the irreversible cost of one life lost to addiction-fueled distribution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito is leading the prosecution.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Resident Office and New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, with critical support from the Trumbull and Monroe Police Departments, aided by Bridgeport Police. Federal authorities say cases like this underscore the lethal reach of street-level drug networks.
