A Waterbury man is behind bars after selling the heroin that led to a young man’s fatal overdose in Woodbridge. Reginald Miles Jr., also known as “Rocky,” 26, was sentenced today to 36 months in federal prison by Senior U.S. District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford. He will serve an additional three years under court supervision after release.
The case centers on the death of a 22-year-old male who died November 19, 2015, from acute intoxication caused by a combination of heroin and Alprazolam—commonly known as Xanax. The State of Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death an overdose tied directly to the drugs purchased hours earlier from Miles.
Court records reveal that shortly before the victim’s death, he traveled with two others to Waterbury, where they bought heroin directly from Miles. The incident is part of a broader federal crackdown targeting dealers whose narcotics lead to overdose deaths, especially as fentanyl and opioid distribution surges across Connecticut.
Miles has been in custody since his arrest on January 22, 2016. On May 19, he pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of heroin, admitting his role in supplying the fatal dose. Prosecutors emphasized that each sale fuels a deadly epidemic ripping through communities across the state.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, with support from multiple local departments: Middlebury, Waterbury, Woodbridge, New Haven, Hamden, Greenwich, Shelton, Bristol, Vernon, Wilton, Milford, Monroe, Fairfield, Manchester, and the Connecticut State Police. The coordinated task force reflects the federal push to dismantle drug supply chains.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Spector prosecuted the case, underscoring that drug dealers will be held accountable when their actions result in death. Miles now begins a three-year federal sentence, a consequence of a single deal that ended in tragedy.
