Colombians Charged with Trafficking Cocaine in Louisiana

Two Colombians have been charged with trafficking cocaine in Louisiana, in a shocking turn of events that has left law enforcement officials stunned. According to officials, JHON ALBEIRO PINEDA JIMENEZ, age 36, and PEDRO ANTONIO JIMENEZ, age 64, were charged today in a two-count Indictment with conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, while on board a vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the charges, emphasizing that the suspects could face life in prison if convicted. Evans reiterated that an Indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of each defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The charges against the two Colombians come after a thorough investigation by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the United States Coast Guard. Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Long is in charge of the prosecution.

The indictment alleges that the pair conspired to distribute and possessed with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, a serious federal crime. If convicted, each defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum possible penalty of life in prison for each count.
