Jim Lewis, Election Day Fraud Prevention, Illinois 2014

Grimy Times has learned of a brazen attempt to undermine democracy in Central Illinois. U.S. Attorney Jim Lewis has appointed four assistants to serve as election officers in the region, in a bid to prevent widespread election day fraud and voting rights abuses.

The appointed assistants include Gregory M. Gilmore in Springfield, David H. Hoff in Urbana, Darilynn J. Knauss in Peoria, and John K. Mehochko in Rock Island. These election officers will be responsible for investigating complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses, in consultation with the Justice headquarters.

The election day program is a nationwide initiative aimed at deterring election fraud and ensuring public confidence in the integrity of the election process. Federal law protects voters from intimidation, bribery, and other forms of election malfeasance, including buying and selling votes, altering vote tallies, and stuffing ballot boxes.

According to Lewis, the program is designed to ensure that voters can cast their ballots free from fear of intimidation or harassment. Election officers will be available at the district’s four offices on election day to receive complaints and direct them to the appropriate authorities.

Residents of Central Illinois are urged to report any suspicious activity or complaints of election day fraud to the designated election officers. The FBI will also have special agents available in each field office to receive allegations of election abuse.

For those who wish to report complaints of voting rights abuses, the Civil Rights Division can be reached at 1-800-253-3931 toll-free, or 202-307-2767. Complaints can also be submitted by fax to 202-307-3961, or by email to voting.section@usdoj.gov.

The Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
