A Choctaw County resident has been sentenced for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition in Oklahoma.

Jimmy Dale Kelley, 38, was sentenced to time served for one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, according to a recent announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, which led to the discovery of a .357 Magnum revolver and spent rounds of ammunition on August 9, 2024.

Kelley had been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison at the time of the incident, making him ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing, where Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob R. Parker represented the United States.

Kelley pleaded guilty to the charge on May 27, 2025, and was subsequently sentenced to time served. The exact length of time served was not disclosed in the announcement.

The case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of violating federal firearms laws, with those found guilty facing significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines.
