Joaquin Broncho, 19, Sentenced to 78 Months for Voluntary Manslaughter
Pocatello – A 19-year-old man from Fort Hall, Idaho, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for voluntary manslaughter. U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release. Joaquin Broncho pleaded guilty to the crime on February 9, 2016.
Broncho was previously charged as a juvenile in the case, but his case was later transferred to adult court. According to the plea agreement, the crime occurred on August 29, 2014, outside of a residence on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.
Broncho and others were involved in a fight, and he went inside the house to obtain a knife. He then went back outside and stabbed Joey Runninghorse, who was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Fort Hall Police Department. Broncho’s guilty plea was a significant development in the case, which had been ongoing for several years.
U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson praised the work of the investigators in bringing the case to a successful conclusion. ‘We are committed to holding individuals accountable for their actions, especially when they result in harm to others,’ she said.
Broncho’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the need for accountability. The sentence was imposed by Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill.
