Joe Corona, Methamphetamine Distribution, Texas 2024

Joe Corona, a Frio County resident, was handed down a 235-month federal prison sentence for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine. The sentencing followed an investigation that revealed Corona sold nearly half a kilo of pure meth for $2,850.

Court documents detail how DEA agents and local deputies uncovered additional drugs and weapons at Corona’s residence during a search warrant execution. The evidence pointed to his involvement with a drug trafficking organization, shuttling meth from Mexico to the U.S.

Corona was initially arrested by Texas Department of Public Safety on state charges in September 2021. A federal grand jury indicted him in October 2021, leading to his transfer into federal custody in January 2022.

Pleading guilty on May 9, 2025, Corona faced U.S. District Judge Jason K. Pulliam for sentencing on August 13 of the same year. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Spears led the prosecution.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a broad Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The DEA, Frio County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety collaborated to bring Corona to justice.
