Keith Glenn Harris, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Texas 2012

TEXARKANA, Texas – In a stunning admission, Keith Glenn Harris, 44, of Texarkana, has been hit with federal charges for drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas. The Department of Justice announced today that Harris pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline M. Craven, admitting to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and carrying a firearm during a drug deal.

According to court documents, on July 21, 2012, Harris was caught with around 1,610 grams of actual methamphetamine and a handgun in his vehicle. He was tasked with ferrying the drugs from Dallas to Texarkana for distribution. A federal grand jury indicted him on Oct. 3, 2012, for violating federal laws.

Harris now stares down a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced, though no date has been set yet. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Texas Department of Public Safety, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby handling the prosecution.

“This case sends a clear message that we will not tolerate drug trafficking and the use of firearms in these activities,” stated U.S. Attorney John M. Bales. “Harris’s actions undermine public safety, and he will face the consequences for his actions.”

Harris’s arrest serves as another reminder of the relentless efforts of federal law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking operations that threaten communities. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to authorities.
