Joe Gordon, Distribution of Methamphetamine, Arkansas 2014

Fort Smith Career Offender Receives Lengthy Prison Sentence for Methamphetamine Distribution

"Defendant Joe Gordon, a career offender with a history of committing crimes, displayed a lack of respect for law enforcement and his fellow citizens," said U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge.

The 30-year-old Fort Smith man was sentenced to 130 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for the Distribution of Methamphetamine. The Honorable P. K. Holmes, III presided over the sentencing in the United States District Court in Fort Smith.

The investigation into Gordon’s activities led to a controlled drug transaction arranged by officers with the Fort Smith Police Department on May 29, 2014. During the transaction, Gordon provided what he represented to be methamphetamine in exchange for U.S. currency. The recovered substance was later tested at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory and confirmed to be methamphetamine.

Gordon’s prior felony convictions, including crimes of violence and controlled substance offenses, made him a Career Offender. He pleaded guilty to the charge on October 16, 2014. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Fort Smith Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Clay Fowlkes prosecuting the case for the United States.

Gordon’s removal from the community is expected to make the Western District of Arkansas a safer place, according to U.S. Attorney Eldridge. The DEA also commended the cooperation between law enforcement agencies in bringing Gordon to justice.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to rid communities of those who traffic in illegal narcotics. The Public Access to Electronic Records website, located at www.pacer.gov, contains related court documents for those interested in learning more about the case.
