Former NFL Player Pleads Guilty to Distributing “Molly”

Tampa, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, Donald Reche Caldwell, a former NFL and University of Florida football player, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a positional isomer of Butylone, also known as Ethylone, and commonly marketed as the street drug “Molly.”

According to the plea agreement, on May 13, 2014, Caldwell signed for and accepted a parcel containing 1.5 kilograms of Ethylone. The parcel had been mailed to the United States from China. Just days later, on May 19, 2014, investigators intercepted a second parcel in Atlanta containing one kilogram of Ethylone.

Further investigation revealed that, just days earlier, Caldwell had mailed the parcel from Tampa. The evidence against Caldwell was overwhelming, leading to his guilty plea today in federal court.

As a positional isomer of Butylone, Ethylone is considered a Schedule I Controlled Substance, making it a highly addictive and potentially deadly substance. The distribution of “Molly” has been linked to numerous overdoses and deaths across the country.

Caldwell, 35, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the consequences of distributing highly addictive substances.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carlton C. Gammons.

Caldwell’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the trafficking ring and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials. The city of Tampa can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that one of its most notorious distributors is behind bars.
