Shippensburg Man Charged in Cocaine Distribution Ring

A 32-year-old Shippensburg man has been federally charged with distributing cocaine in Franklin County.

Dante Kaleek Darby, 32, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Harrisburg on four counts of distribution of a controlled substance, cocaine, between September 2012 and October 2013 in Franklin County.

If convicted, Darby faces a statutory maximum of 20 years imprisonment and a $1 million fine. The investigation into Darby’s alleged activities was a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Franklin County Drug Task Force.

Prosecution of the case is being handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Laura J. Kerstetter, of the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.

Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilty is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The investigation into Darby’s alleged activities in Shippensburg is a prime example of law enforcement agencies working together to disrupt and dismantle cocaine distribution rings. The potential sentence for Darby is not an accurate indicator of the potential outcome, as the Judge is required to consider a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances and seriousness of the offense; the history and characteristics of the defendant; and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational and medical needs.

Darby’s alleged activities in Franklin County have raised concerns about the prevalence of cocaine distribution in the area. Law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to address this issue and keep the community safe.

The case is a reminder that those involved in cocaine distribution can face severe consequences, including lengthy prison sentences and significant fines. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
