Florida Resident Sentenced to 19 Years for Cocaine Distribution

A Jacksonville, Florida man has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his role in distributing cocaine and cocaine base. Arnold Clayton, 42, of Sanderson, Florida, was sentenced to nineteen years and six months in federal prison for his crimes.

According to court documents, Clayton sold cocaine base and cocaine to a confidential source for $320 on July 13, 2012. He was sentenced as a career offender due to his two previous federal drug convictions.

Clayton’s lengthy rap sheet includes a five-year federal prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base in 1999. He was also sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for distribution of cocaine base in 2007. When Clayton committed the current offenses, he was still on supervised release for the 2007 case.

The case was investigated by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Rodney Brown and Frank Talbot.

Clayton, who pleaded guilty to the charges on June 9, 2014, will also serve a term of six years of supervision after his release from prison.

The harsh sentence is a reflection of Clayton’s long history of involvement in the illicit narcotics trade. With this latest conviction, he has been held accountable for his actions and will now face the consequences of his crimes.

The people of Sanderson and surrounding communities can rest a little easier knowing that a notorious cocaine dealer is off the streets. As a society, we must remain vigilant in our fight against the scourge of narcotics trafficking.
