MANHATTAN, NEW YORK – In a shocking case of attempted murder, Joel Rosquette, a 50-year-old Manhattan man, has been arrested for attempting to hire a hitman to murder three intended victims.
According to the allegations, Rosquette hired an individual he thought was a hitman to murder two of his neighbors in Manhattan and the owner of a gas station in Staten Island. In a twisted plan, he arranged for the hitman to murder the gas station owner first and rob the gas station’s safe, with the proceeds paying for the murder of his two neighbors.
However, what Rosquette did not know was that the person he thought was a hitman was actually an undercover FBI agent. This morning, Rosquette was arrested and his plan to commission three murders was foiled.
The charges against Rosquette include three counts of murder-for-hire, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The maximum potential sentence in this case is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the judge.
The case is being handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Adam S. Hobson is in charge of the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman praised the outstanding work of the FBI in foiling Rosquette’s plan and sparing the lives of the intended victims.
