MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison for Ammunition Possession
A 29-year-old admitted MS-13 gang member was sentenced to 15 months in prison for possessing ammunition as a convicted felon in Alexandria, Va., on May 25, 2024.
Oscar Melendez, also known as Creeper, was convicted of multiple felonies involving possession of a controlled dangerous substance and credit card fraud before being found in possession of ammunition during a law enforcement investigation into crimes committed by the MS-13 gang.
According to court documents, law enforcement officers recovered the bullets from Melendez’s residence while investigating crimes committed by the MS-13 gang. During a Mirandized interview, Melendez admitted to possessing the ammunition and to being a member of MS-13.
U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady handed down the sentence, which includes three years of supervised release after Melendez serves his prison time. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen C. Cain prosecuted the case.
Melendez’s sentencing marks a significant blow to MS-13’s presence in the National Capital Region, which is the result of a joint effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Forces and Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Forces, as well as the DEA, USMS, and ATF, along with the Department of Homeland Security.
