Waukesha, WI – In a shocking turn of events, former Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Johanna Grace, 34, has pleaded guilty to providing marijuana and a cellular telephone to an inmate of the Waukesha County Jail. This egregious crime was committed in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2(a), 1791(a)(1), 1791(b)(3), and 1791(b)(4).
According to publicly filed documents, Grace was serving as a Lieutenant with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office when she coordinated with associates outside the Waukesha County Jail to bring contraband inside the facility. However, when she realized her crime would be discovered, Grace shared internal law enforcement reports with those same associates. This heinous act has been acknowledged as part of her offense of conviction, further solidifying her obstruction of justice.
Grace’s actions have left the community stunned and outraged. Her betrayal of the public’s trust is a stark reminder of the dangers of corruption within our justice system. As a law enforcement officer, Grace was sworn to uphold the law, not break it.
The investigation into Grace’s crime was led by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Katherine Halopka-Ivery and Kevin Knight will be prosecuting the case.
Grace faces a statutory maximum of five years’ imprisonment. Sentencing is set for October 9, 2024, before United States District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller. As the community waits with bated breath for the outcome, one thing is certain – justice will be served.
Waukesha County residents are left wondering how this could have happened on their watch. How could a trusted law enforcement officer compromise the safety and security of her colleagues and the public she serves? The answers to these questions will have to wait until the trial.
In the meantime, the Grimy Times will continue to investigate and expose the truth behind this shocking scandal.
