TOPEKA, KAN – In a shocking turn of events, Johanna Ross, a 23-year-old woman from Topeka, Kansas, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for her involvement in an armed robbery at a Red Robin restaurant.
The crime took place on August 18, 2013, at the Red Robin restaurant located at 6230 S.W. 6th in Topeka. Derick Renee Crawford, who was armed with a handgun, and Travis Jeremy Coffman, who was armed with a can of mace, robbed the restaurant while holding employees at gunpoint.
Ross, who pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting an armed robbery and one count of unlawfully accessing a state database, admitted to being present in the parking lot when Crawford and Coffman planned the robbery. She also confessed to driving Crawford away after the robbery and retrieving the firearm used by Crawford, the pink can of mace used by Coffman, and a shirt used by Crawford during the robbery.
In a separate count unrelated to the robbery, Ross admitted to using her access to a database of motor vehicle records to retrieve the address of an individual and pass that information on to a third party for payment, all in violation of federal law.
Crawford, who was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison, and Coffman, who was sentenced to 49 months in federal prison, were also involved in the robbery. Grissom commended the Topeka Police Department, the FBI, the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared for their work on the case.
As stated in the court documents, Johanna Ross will serve a three-year prison sentence, followed by a $1,000 fine. The crime occurred in Topeka, Kansas, on August 18, 2013.
