A Thibodaux, Louisiana social worker has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar healthcare fraud scheme.
According to court documents, John Christopher Barrilleaux, 64, submitted false claims to private insurance companies for millions of dollars in healthcare services that were not actually provided. To hide the fraud, Barrilleaux created fake patient notes and submitted them to the insurance companies to support his bills.
Between 2008 and 2024, Barrilleaux submitted false claims to private insurance companies for millions of dollars in healthcare services. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $4,592,650 in restitution to the victim companies, as well as a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas D. Moses, of the Financial Crimes Unit and Health Care Fraud Coordinator, and Trial Attorney Kelly Z. Walters, of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
